Color may look slightly different
GIF uses a limited indexed color palette, while PNG can represent full color. The PNG stores the decoded GIF colors but cannot restore colors that were absent from the original.

Will the PNG remain animated?＋
No. The result is a single still PNG using the first decoded GIF frame.
Can GIF transparency be preserved?＋
Yes. Transparent pixels in the captured frame can remain transparent in PNG.
Does PNG improve GIF color quality?＋
It prevents further palette limits but cannot invent colors that were not in the GIF.
Will dimensions change?＋
No. The first frame is saved at the GIF's original dimensions.
Why does the first frame look blank?＋
Some animations use an initial setup frame. This simple converter uses the first frame provided by the browser.
Can I select a later animation frame?＋
Not in this tool. A frame-extraction editor is required to choose an exact later frame.
